Greenville Takes Elite Eight in Deciding Game
|
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at The Beach Cooler at South Beach as the Elite Eight stretched to the final game.
It was the Greenville 84's feeling the thrill of victory, with a 4-0 win over the Cervezas de Miami, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Final Four.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Cervezas de Miami manager Jesús Domínguez. "Congratulations to Greenville, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was center fielder Héctor Accuro, who was named MVP. He hit .429 with a .515 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 9 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The Greenville 84's don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Charm City Baysox - St. Louis Browns series. That series is tied at 3 games apiece. The Final Four schedule will be announced after the Elite Eight finishes.
