RubberDucks Best Cougars in Pitching Duel
|
The Charleston RubberDucks and Fort Worth Cougars played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
The Fort Worth Cougars got a superb performance from pitcher Nick Washington. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Charleston. The RubberDucks won the game, 2-1. Washington threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Vicente Peña went 7 innings for Charleston to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 run. He scattered 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3. His record improves to 8-9. Pete Brown recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 13 for 16.
The RubberDucks got a big at-bat from left fielder Jon Benjamin. For the game, Benjamin went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Charleston a 2-1 lead.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Benjamin.
The 5th-place RubberDucks improved to 60-59.
