Houston Bats Go Silent in 3-0 Loss
|
The St. Louis Browns beat the Houston Eagles, 3-0, at Gateway Stadium. Starting pitcher Mark Barber was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. St. Louis, at 73-45, is 8½ games up in the Fire Division.
The Browns got an important contribution from second baseman Rob Slater, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a 1-1 fastball into center for a run-scoring double. It was his 15th double of the season and put the Browns ahead, 2-0.
Browns manager José Mora raved about Barber after the game. "I thought Mark was 'lights out.'"
