Knights Stymie Columbus, Take 4-1 Win
|
The New York Knights picked up a win at Bronx Municipal Park, knocking off the Columbus Coalition, 4-1. Starting pitcher Joey Layman was a big reason why. Layman went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 7-8. Rodolfo Márquez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 7 save opportunities.
Cooper Squires chipped in for New York with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"We take it day by day here," said Squires, "and today was a good one for us."
The win puts New York at 57-95.
