Bergen Bangs 4 out of the Park
Monday, June 19th , 2051
It was a fairy-tale day for Ed Bergen -- right up until the end.

The Spartanburg Spartans first baseman had an almost-unbelievable 4 home runs at The Guild, but his fairy-tale ending was snatched away by the Nashua Redlegs, who took a 13-10 win.

"I'm paid to hit 'em, and I hit 'em real good today, but not good enough to win the game," Bergen said to BNN reporters after his historic game. "The loss tarnishes it a bit and takes away some from the day. Give it to the Redlegs, they hung in and stayed with us the whole time."

On his big day, the first baseman for the Spartans had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

"Ed probably earned himself a few days without hearing any criticism from me," Spartanburg manager Francisco Franco told reporters later. "The rest of the guys, not so much."

Ed Bergen hit a two-run home run off Bill Conley in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Bill Conley in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off António Ayala in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Dan Sandhoff in the 9th.

Hitting .317 to date, Bergen has 30 home runs and 61 RBIs. He has played in 69 games.
