The Bishop Verot HS Mudcats ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Shelby HS Rockets 23-8 to win the HS Title Round.

Bishop Verot HS won the series 3-0, capturing the title for the 1st time.

"We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Bishop Verot HS manager Murai Ishihara. "It's a great feeling."

The champs finished the regular season 29-11 and claimed first place in the High School CL Northern Division.

In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and first baseman Wes Peck said the Mudcats have "great fans and they deserve this."

"I am so happy for our city right now," he said.
