Hit Parade: Banks Pops 5 Hits
Thursday, August 12th , 2055
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-8 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Eugene Banks, it came around today.
The 25-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over King George Park to pace the 8-7 Cornwall Royals victory over the Olympia Marshalls.
Olympia skipper Dan Martin told reporters in the press room that "Banks deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Banks hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Eugene Banks singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 9th, flied out in the 12th, singled in the 14th and singled in the 16th.
This year, Banks has collected a .266 batting average to date with 119 hits in 447 at-bats, 50 RBIs, 10 home runs and scored 87 times. He has played in 112 games.
