Vélez Finally Fails, Streak Ends at 22 Sunday, August 29th , 2055 All good things must come to an end -- and so it was today for Victorino Vélez as he saw his 22-game hitting streak end. He went hitless in 2 at-bats at the hands of the Vancouver Vipers. It wasn't all bad for the 24-year-old left fielder and the Albuquerque Isotopes however, as they defeated Vancouver, 10-6, at Red Hot Stadium. When asked about his hitting streak, a smiling Vélez laughed and said, "I guess my luck ran out today." For the season, Vélez has produced 55 hits in 142 at-bats for a .387 average with 10 home runs and gotten on base at a .426 clip. |
