Pelicans Rally For 9-4 Win
|
The Columbus Coalition and New Orleans Pelicans were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The New Orleans Pelicans faced a tough opponent in Columbus pitcher Wes Slaughter, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Agent 47 Field by a final score of 9-4. Slaughter went 5 innings and allowed no runs. At 49-82, the Pelicans claim last place in the Earth Division.
The result might have been different for New Orleans, had it not been for José Piña, the 27-year old center fielder . Piña stroked a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put New Orleans up, 4-3. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Piña told the New Orleans Daily News. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
