The Fort Worth Cougars overcame a fine performance by New York first baseman Miguel Pérez to defeat the Knights, 6-5, at Bronx Municipal Park. Pérez was 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times. Mike Crawford earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Pat Bruce got credit for the save for Fort Worth. It was his 6th of the year.

Fort Worth used a clutch hit from Walter Peterson to get the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cougars ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Fort Worth manager Bill Hansen.

With the win, Fort Worth climbs to 12-11.
