The St. Charles Sheens had to overcome a fine effort from Kansas City pitcher Jun Matsuura to grab a narrow 3-1 win at Kings Ball Park. Matsuura went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. The loss drops the Kings to 8-18.

St. Charles used the clutch hitting of Francisco Martínez to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Sheens the lead, 2-1. For the game, Martínez had 1 single and 1 double in 3 at-bats.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said St. Charles skipper Bill Wilson.
