Gang Green Beat Eagles, 5-2
|
Irvine pitcher Tyson Patton did his part in helping his team beat the Houston Eagles, 5-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Patton, now 2-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. Rich Cervantes collected save number 8.
The Eagles had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Gang Green going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the three-time All-Star Sixto Peña came to the plate. Peña hit a solo home run on a full count fastball from Houston hurler Dennis Griffith. It was Peña's 10th home run of the year.
Patton called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
The Gang Green saw their win-loss record go to 23-19. At the same time, the Eagles fell to 22-20.
