Kalamazoo Takes League Championship Friday, October 24th, 2036 The Kalamazoo Royale with Cheese clubhouse was doused in champagne tonight at Gateway Stadium, after the team wrapped up the League Championship. Kalamazoo downed the St. Louis Browns 8-5 to win the series 4-1. "There's no champagne if you lose, so it's a sweet thing to taste," said first baseman Greg Nichols, who was named series MVP. For the series, Nichols hit .412 with a .444 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 4 runs. While they may not get the sweet taste of champagne this year, the Browns will no doubt be drowning their sorrows tonight. "It's never easy to lose a playoff series and I don't think there's a single guy in our room who is going to be able to easily accept that our season is now over," said St. Louis manager José Vargas. The Kalamazoo Royale with Cheese will play against the Denver Doobies in the next round. Denver won their series against the Toronto Timberwolves 4 games to 0.
