Vipers End Mendoza's Streak
Saturday, August 30th, 2042
It was the best of both worlds for the Vancouver Vipers today at The Viper Nest, as they defeated the Galveston Tides 7-6 and also snapped Dave Mendoza's 23-game hitting streak. The 27-year-old Galveston first baseman failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats.

"Nothing personal against Mendoza, we just wanted to win the game," said Vipers skipper Bill Wilson. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."

When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Mendoza frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won."

A look at his current stats shows Mendoza with a .280 average, 44 home runs, 124 RBIs and 100 runs scored. He has played in 139 games.
