Vargas Booms 3 Homers Friday, June 23rd , 2051 Joplin Miners bombardier Luis Miguel Vargas set his sights on the stands and blasted three balls over the fence as his club took a 13-7 win over the Alexandria Aces today. "I guess you could say I was a good guesser today, especially on the last one," Vargas told writers in the postgame press room. "I was ahead in the count, so I gambled that I'd get a certain pitch, and got all of it." For the game, the Joplin third baseman had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, drove in 4, and scored 5 runs. Luis Miguel Vargas singled in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Drake Corrigan in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Mike Curtis in the 6th, struck out in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Mike Curtis in the 9th. This season Vargas is swinging the bat at a .260 rate with 61 hits in 235 at-bats. To date he has hit 21 home runs, scored 51 runs and driven in 44. |
