It was a terrific day for Al Leslie, who ripped three home runs at Roger Maris Field, and a disappointing one for the Joplin Miners who, nevertheless, dropped the game, 6-5, to the Bismark Border Guards.
"He was instant offense," Joplin skipper Donald Sanford said. "Al really put on a show. He more than did his part. We just didn't come through with hits at the right time to win the game."
For the day, Leslie collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs.
In the postgame press conference he told the reporters he has always liked to hit at Roger Maris Field.
"I got some good pitches to hit and turned on them real good," he said.
Al Leslie hit a solo-shot off Gregory King in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Gregory King in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Leonard Yarnell in the 5th, singled in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.
Leslie is currently hitting .197 with 5 home runsand 12 RBIs, while scoring 20 runs.
