Hits Galore: Vaughn Drills 5 Hits Saturday, July 19th, 2042 Joplin shortstop Elmer Vaughn had a day to remember today, 5-for-5 against the Bismark Border Guards at Roger Maris Field as the Miners picked up a 15-5 victory. "He was patient up there today," Joplin skipper Randy Pruitt told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly aggressive. Vaughn has a tendency to chase bad balls sometimes." Elmer Vaughn singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, doubled in the 8th and walked in a run in the 9th.
