Smith on Fire: 5-for-8 for Moose Jaw Sunday, July 9th , 2051 The Moose Jaw Ghostbusters stopped the Menlo Maniacs by a score of 27-4 at Menlo Park today, with the lion's share of the credit going to left fielder Joe Smith. The 28-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits. "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Smith said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard." Smith did just that in his 8 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Maniacs. "Not much that I can say," offered Menlo manager Cisco Ruíz. "He just hammered the heck out of us." Joe Smith singled in the 1st, struck out in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Mike Mosher in the 9th.
