NWL (28 & Under) Top Manager Trophy Goes to Gilbert Saturday, October 24th, 2037 Sam Gilbert celebrated a successful season with the Yokima Yogis by hosting team officials and select media at a Yokima area first-class eatery. But, when he first came to town, the 2037 Northwest League Manager of the Year would've been lucky to be invited out for beers with the grounds crew. "Very few people believed in our ballclub when I got here. It just goes to show you that a bunch of talented ballplayers playing together can make any old manager a genius," a modest Gilbert joked, not fully recognizing his own stature in the baseball community. However, baseball journalists duly noted his managerial skill as he skippered the Yogis to a 99-63 record this year and a first place finish in the Northwest League West. |
