G-Strings Lose to 84's, 3-1
|
The Greenville 84's beat the Nashville G-Strings, 3-1, at Michigan & Trumbull. The 84's got a fine performance from first baseman Jasiel Briceno, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Robert Davis, the winner, improved to 8-3. He held the G-Strings to 1 run on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 1. Herman Banks wrapped it up, recording his 18th save.
Briceno contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Greenville in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Briceno took a fastball from Bartolo Bojórquez and stroked the home run to left. His 17th home run of the season allowed the 84's to leap in front, 2-1.
"The fact of the matter is that we had a shot to win," said losing manager Jesús Domínguez.
The victory gives the 84's a record of 52-33.
