Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Minnesota North Stars and Maui Wave.

The Minnesota North Stars defeated the Maui Wave, 5-3. First Baseman Jesús Ramos deserved a large share of the credit. Ramos went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the North Stars. Reliever Steven Sanford picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Ronald Johnston took the loss. Pat Key notched his 20th save in 22 chances.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Stu Anderson was at the plate when Minnesota scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the North Stars to go in front, 5-3.

"We took home the win," said Ramos. "What's not to like?"

The victory gives the North Stars a record of 51-39.
