Kings Beat Minnesota, 5-4

The Kansas City Kings did just enough to nip the Minnesota North Stars, 5-4, in 11 innings. Kansas City pitcher Desmond Lyons, in particular, had a standout performance. Jaime Cortéz, now 1-1, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 4 and walking 1. The Kings, now 9-2, have stormed out of the gates.
The decisive blow was delivered by Estanislau Gandarei in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a run-scoring double off 22-year old left-handed pitcher Steven Sanford to win the game for Kansas City. The home crowd went nuts.
"I like the groove we're in," said Lyons.
