Gang Green Win, 5-2, Versus Firebirds
|
The Phoenix Firebirds got a superb performance from pitcher Ánibal Escobedo, but the Irvine Gang Green still won the game, 5-2. Escobedo threw 5.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Salvador Ramos got the win, improving to 9-5. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. The first-place Gang Green have a one-game lead in their division.
Travis Allen had a big 2-run home run for the Gang Green in the top of the sixth inning. With Irvine leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Héctor Rodríguez and punished it. The result was his 21st home run of the season, which put the Gang Green on top, 3-0.
"We take it day by day here," said Allen, "and today was a good one for us."
