The Fresno Pharaohs had to overcome a good performance from Irvine pitcher Salvador Ramos to claim a 3-1 win at Cougar Den. Ramos went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Nick Smith earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record is now 5-1. Soh Nakamura was credited with the save for Fresno, his 31st of the season.

Had Larry Piper not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Piper hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Pharaohs.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Fresno manager Kyle Reese.

The third-place Pharaohs sport a record of 55-62.
