The St. Louis Browns took Mexico City pitcher Dennis Griffith's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Gateway Stadium. The final score had St. Louis getting past the Luchadores, 4-3. Griffith went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 4. St. Louis pitcher Manuel Ramírez got the win. He's now 5-5. David García was tagged with the loss. Bob Graham, who finished 2nd in the BSA in saves with 45 last year, nailed down the save.
Luis Miguel Martínez drove in one run for St. Louis. The 26-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off David García. It was his 78th RBI of the season.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Mexico City manager Dick Davis, "let me know."
With the win, the Browns hiked their record to 67-51.
