Long Island Edges Phoenix, 2-1
|
The Phoenix Firebirds got a sterling performance from pitcher Richard Clark, but the Long Island Ducks still prevailed, 2-1. Clark threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. José Romo notched his 11th save in 14 chances. The Ducks now own a record of 59-75.
Randy Conley had a big run-scoring double for the Ducks in the bottom of the first inning. With Long Island leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Richard Clark and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ducks ahead, 2-0.
"Makes our job easier," said Conley, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
