Chicago and Detroit duked it out and the Machine came out victorious.

The Chicago Machine picked up a win at Old Comiskey Park, taking down the Detroit Dirtbags, 4-1. Starting pitcher Steve Belaouf was a big reason why. Belaouf, the winner, moves to 3-5. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk.

The Dirtbags had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Machine going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the former first overall pick Wayne Butler came to the plate. Butler hit a solo home run on a 0-1 fastball from Detroit hurler Dave Covington. It was Butler's 13th home run of the year.

"Bottom line," said Detroit skipper Kyle Reese, "we didn't play well enough to win."

Chicago, with the win, sits at 19-45.
