Koch Swings for the Cycle
Sunday, September 5th , 2055
Getting 4 hits in a game is no easy feat, but doing it to hit for the cycle is even more rare.
Darby Koch of the Corpus Christi Hooks pulled it off at Dow Chemical Stadium, going 4-for-5 against the Erie Jaxx. His batting escapades sparked the Hooks to a win, 7-6.
Koch tallied 1 run and drove in 3 during the game. Hitting for the cycle is particularly rare because of the different skills required - enough power for a home run, enough speed for a triple and enough patience at the plate to see at least four hittable balls.
"It just happened," Koch said to reporters after the win. "Must have been fate or something, I wasn't expecting it. Heck, I wasn't even really trying for it."
Darby Koch flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Dale Wilson in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
So far in 2055 Koch is batting .333 with 30 home runs, 84 RBIs and 112 runs scored. He has 176 hits in 529 at-bats and a .393 OBP.

Carter Earns NL Top Pitcher Trophy
Wednesday, September 1st , 2055
The Chisago Lakes Lakers celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Tyrone Carter had been selected as August's National League Pitcher of the Month. Carter's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.
"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Carter said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."
Carter tossed 44.1 innings last month, holding opponents to a .204 average while striking out 43 batters. In 6 starting assignments he came away with a 3-1 record, putting together an ERA of 1.02.
This season, Carter has registered 7 wins and 6 losses in 20 starts with a 4.30 ERA.
