North Stars Fall Short, 3-2, at Fort Worth
The Fort Worth Cougars did just enough to sneak past the Minnesota North Stars, 3-2, at Cougar Den. Fort Worth pitcher Nick Washington, in particular, had a standout performance. Fort Worth reliever Pedro Delgado picked up the win, raising his record to 5-2. Markus Blackwell was tagged with the loss. Pat Bruce locked down his 17th save.

Had Tony Piper not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Piper hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Cougars.

"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Piper told the Fort Worth Times.

The Cougars raised their record to 36-37.
