Coalition Win at Boston, 9-6
|
The Columbus Coalition knocked off the Boston Rebels, 9-6, at Rebels Park. Domingo González was a big reason Columbus won. The shortstop went 1 for 2 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Keith Thomas, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 2-6. The win puts Columbus at 31-50.
Columbus used the bat of Michael Belden to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Coalition ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
In postgame comments to the Columbus Daily News, González said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
