Twice as Nice: Minnesota Extends Lead to 2-0 With Walk-off Win
|
The Minnesota North Stars got a strong game from starter Cipriano Borges, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The North Stars took the 4-2 win over the Greenville 84's in Game 2 of the Elite Eight in a 9th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Borges. Borges threw 6.1 innings allowing 1 run in the win, which gave the North Stars a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Minnesota got a knockout punch from Carlos Díaz. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Borges.
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Michigan & Trumbull in Greenville.
