The Seattle Admirals started the World Series in style, downing the visiting Kansas City Kings at The Ship Yard by a score of 9-4 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Admirals third baseman Earl Reed went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

Had Salvador Alou not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Alou hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Admirals.

"Every team in baseball loses," Kings manager Adrián León said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Ship Yard in Seattle.
