|
Phoenix pitcher Mike Gibson had a large part in his team beating the New York Knights, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Phoenix reliever Alan Morris was the winner. His record is now 3-4. Morton Schneider took the loss. Carlos Palmer, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 13th save.
Phoenix used the hitting of Joe Charpentier to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Firebirds on top, 3-2. For the game, Charpentier had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Charpentier told the Phoenix Bulletin.
The triumph makes Phoenix 32-72.
