84's Earn Late Win
|
The Greenville 84's locked up a win at Michigan & Trumbull, knocking off the Sausalito Meatballs, 3-2. On the mound for Greenville was right-hander Norman MacDonald. He played a major role in the triumph. The win was credited to Howard Mullins in relief. His record improves to 8-2. Johnny Quick took the loss. Greenville goes to 83-54, Sausalito to 74-63.
The decisive blow was delivered by Juan Gómez in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a solo home run off 33-year old left-handed pitcher Johnny Quick to win the game for Greenville. The home crowd went nuts.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Gómez, "one at-bat at a time."
