Meatballs Handed 7-1 Loss by St. Louis
|
Sausalito had no answer for 29-year old left-handed pitcher Ramón Longoria. The St. Louis Browns starter stymied Meatballs hitters, helping the Browns cruise to victory, 7-1. Longoria yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 10-6. With the win, the Browns hiked their record to 75-62.
The Browns got a big at-bat from center fielder Claude Rowland. For the game, Rowland went 2-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 33rd home run of the season gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead.
Said losing manager Michael Cook: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
