Irvine and Charm City duked it out and the Gang Green came out victorious.
The Irvine Gang Green defeated the Charm City Baysox, 5-2, in Baseball Stars Association action at Prince George's Stadium. Irvine pitcher Jorge Cossutta had a standout performance. Cossutta yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 15-7. Picking up the save was Bob Prescott. He's now 34 for 40 in save chances.
Irvine used a clutch at-bat from Ken Clement to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Gang Green ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Jorge was in tempo tonight," said Irvine skipper David Adams.
The first-place Gang Green, at 98-43, lead the Heart Division by 14½ games.
