Green Sox Suffer One-Run Loss at Columbus
|
Fans watched the Columbus Coalition and the Lubbock Green Sox fight to the finish.
The Columbus Coalition topped the Lubbock Green Sox, 6-5, in Baseball Stars Association action at Agent 47 Field. The standout performance belonged to Columbus pitcher and Dearborn, Michigan, native Wes Slaughter. Slaughter, the winner, moves to 15-10. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk.
Fred Watson had a big grand slam home run for the Coalition in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Columbus leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a curveball from fireballing 6' 8" right-hander Bill Bryant and punished it. The result was his 22nd home run of the season, which put the Coalition on top, 5-0.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Coalition manager Courtnay Beck.
The Coalition raised their record to 62-81.
