Columbus Draws Blanks Against Chávez
|
Jesús Chávez of the Seattle Admirals was on top of his game.
The 25-year-old tantalized the Columbus Coalition with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0.
"He had the changeup working," Columbus manager Courtnay Beck said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Seattle hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Chávez told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season, Chávez has 13 wins and 8 losses and a 3.93 ERA.
