Machine Beat Browns, 5-3
|
Getting offensive support from Alex Black, the Chicago Machine topped the St. Louis Browns, 5-3. Black went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Machine. Sixto González, the winner, improved to 7-8. He held the Browns to 2 runs on 2 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 3. Gabriel Garza recorded the save, making him 23 for 31.
Black contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Chicago in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Black took a slider from José Ventura and stroked the home run to left-center. His 24th home run of the season allowed the Machine to leap in front, 3-1.
"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Black told the Chicago Times.
The Machine raised their record to 66-84.
