St. Charles and Manchester duked it out and the Sheens came out victorious.
The St. Charles Sheens grabbed a win, 5-2, over the Manchester Foxes at The Fox Den. St. Charles first baseman Ángel Vera went 2 for 2 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Melvin Hill, the winner, goes to 10-8. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
St. Charles used the timely hitting of Gerardo Castillo to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Sheens ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It was a good effort all around," said Castillo.
St. Charles raised its record to 78-72 with the win.
