Sheens Win at Cleveland, 9-5
|
St. Charles third baseman Steve Harper had a 3-RBI game, which proved instrumental to his team beating the Cleveland Fire, 9-5. Harper picked up 2 singles and 1 double in the ballgame. Don Tanner got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings. Alfred Molina collected his 3rd save.
St. Charles used a clutch at-bat from Larry Cartwright to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Sheens ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Cartwright expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
Cleveland now has a record of 9-8.
