Eagles Suffer 6-2 Road Loss
|
Montreal and Houston got after it at Olympic Stadium.
The exploits of right fielder Nick Baker, who finished 2nd in the BSA in OPS with .972 in 2048, helped the Montreal Royales defeat the Houston Eagles, 6-2. Baker went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Juan Mancina, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Eagles to 1 run on 3 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Derrek Stewart was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
With Montreal leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Baker hit a fastball from Eric Sheppard for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Royales ahead, 3-0.
Baker called the win "a collective effort."
The win puts Montreal at 2-0.
