Wells Bangs Out 5 Base Hits
|
David Wells was at the head of a Redwood City Redwoods hit parade at Redwood Park. The 25-year-old went to the plate 5 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Oklahoma City 89ers that marched off with the 12-10 win.
"We didn't have it today," griped Redwoods skipper Matt Gates following the game. "David did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."
Wells did more than fine, dominating the 89ers at the plate during his record-making 5-for-5 performance.
"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging left fielder told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
David Wells singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season, Wells has hit .298 with 18 home runs, 44 RBIs and scored 42 times.
