Luchadores Win at Home, 4-2
|
The Mexico City Luchadores knocked off the Montreal Royales, 4-2, in Baseball Stars Association action at Eagles Park. Mexico City pitcher and Caracas, Venezuela, native Júlio Vargas had an outstanding performance. Vargas yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 1 hit, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-3. Picking up the save was 28-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Gonzáles.
Anastasio Rivera dealt the Royales a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Mexico City leading 2-1, Rivera, who is tied for 10th in the BSA with a .413 on-base percentage, hit a full count sinker for a run-scoring single.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Vargas said.
The Luchadores now have a record of 22-23.
