Rebels Drop Meatballs, 4-2
|
The Boston Rebels outlasted the Sausalito Meatballs, 4-2, in 10 innings. Boston second baseman Ed Nipper stood out with his performance. He went 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Boston reliever Wendell Mellant snagged the win, upping his record to 2-1. Dave Menke shouldered the loss. Pat Key earned the save for Boston, his 2nd.
Nipper had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a first pitch changeup from Dave Menke, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Rebels a 4-2 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Nipper.
Nipper said his team "played with determination."
Boston's record now stands at 20-28, placing them last in the Heart Division.
