Firebirds Thwart Admirals, 3-2

The Phoenix Firebirds did just enough to sneak past the Seattle Admirals, 3-2, at Firebirds Field. Phoenix pitcher Richard Clark, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner was Clark. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Vic Niekro. Roger Malhado earned the save, his 3rd.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Firebirds had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when right fielder John Davis hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Vic Niekro and made the score 3-0, Firebirds. Davis went 1 for 4.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Davis.
At 26-31, the Firebirds are currently 6th in the Heart Division.
