Even as a kid, Paul Ward said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Gentry Field, Ward showed how well he learned that lesson.

The 20-year-old right fielder had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Cincinnati Pride, helping his team knock off the Chisago Lakes Lakers by a score of 12-1.

"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did."

Paul Ward hit an RBI double in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

In the current season, Ward has put up a .359 batting average with 65 hits, 9 home runs, 35 RBI and scored 31 runs.
