Wave Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel

The Irvine Gang Green wasted an impressive 6.1-inning effort from starter Johnny Tatum, falling, 1-0, to the Maui Wave at Rainbow Stadium. Shannon Jones picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Johnny Tatum suffered the loss. The save went to Jorge Gonzáles, number 17 for him.
The Gang Green had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Wave going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the speedster Miguel Pérez came to the plate. Pérez hit a solo home run on a 2-2 cutter from Irvine hurler Johnny Tatum. It was Pérez's 3rd home run of the year.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Maui manager José Betancourt.
The victory gives the Wave a record of 39-25.
