The Minnesota Death Stars stopped the Newport News by a score of 15-0 at Rickwood Field, with the lion's share of the credit going to center fielder Wayne Jones. The 22-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.

"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Jones said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."

Jones did just that in his 7 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the News.

"Not much that I can say," offered Newport manager Augusto Baca. "He just hammered the heck out of us."

Wayne Jones singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Ron Cook in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Ron Cook in the 7th, flied out in the 9th and hit a two-run double in the 9th.

So far this season, Jones is hitting .315 with 28 home runs, 98 RBIs and 103 runs scored. He has 135 hits in 429 at-bats and a .439 OBP.
