Panthers End Stephens's Streak Saturday, July 31st, 2038 The Houston Eagles lost to the Vista Panthers 3-0 today at Prohibition Brewing Co Stadium, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Doug Stephens's 26-game hitting streak. The catcher went 0-for-3 on the day. "We felt if we could slow down Stephens, we would win the game," Panthers manager Mark Hebert explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down." To date Stephens has chalked up a .305 average with 27 home runs, driven in 69 runs and scored 61 times. |
