An injury, a torn labrum, has put an early end to the baseball career of Redwood City's 26-year-old reliever José Castillo. He was injured in yesterday's game against the Houston Hammertime while throwing a pitch. Team doctors reported today that the injury is so severe that Castillo will not be able to continue playing and will have to retire from the game.

So far this season, in 49 relief appearances Castillo has compiled an ERA of 4.55. He has pitched 63.1 innings, struck out 67, walked 21 and registered 15 saves.
